Furnishing Liquor to Minors

In Washington, it is a crime to furnish alcohol to minors, save for certain exceptions. Unlawfully providing alcohol to minors is a gross misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $5000 fine. It is also unlawful to provide a place for minors to consume alcohol.
RCW 66.44.270 states that "[i]t is unlawful for any person to sell, give, or otherwise supply liquor to any person under the age of twenty-one years or permit any person under that age to consume liquor on his or her premises or on any premises under his or her control."
There are defenses to the Furnishing to Minors charges, which include religious services, medicinal application of liquor, and furnishing by a parent (when consumed in the parents’ presence).
